Global settings

Before you can place the catalog in a page or even start adding products, you need to set up your catalog.

You do that by clicking on Apps / Catalog / E-commerce System (if the Catalog is part of your YWD package, of course).

How to process orders

  • Catalog / E-comm mode: this option dictates the overall purpose of the catalog:
    • Brochure:
Users can neither order nor request products. Think of it as an online catalog of products i.e. no e-commerce will be used.
    • Brochure, list only:
Same as the option above, but without the individual/detailed view of the products. Clicking the product titles or images will have no effect, and no "View details" buttons will be displayed.
    • Case studies
Similiar to the Brochure mode, but formatted in a way that’s more appropriate to list case studies of projects, clients, etc.
    • PayPal payments - orders paid using PayPal:
YWD will list and display the products, but PayPal will handle the shopping cart and the purchases. When visitors click to buy a product, they'll be taken to the PayPal website. You'll need to paste the script used by PayPal to handle the shopping cart here, as well as the PayPal code for each product.
    • PayPal Express and/or Direct Payments (Visa & MasterCard):
This mode is the most frequently chosen by our clients. It allows you to use PayPal Express for payments via credit card. You will need to enter your PayPal-specific information such as your username, password, signature, etc. Unlike the simple PayPal method, visitors will remain on your website throughout the purchase; PayPal Express will handle the purchase from "behind the scenes".
    • Moneris (Visa & MasterCard):
Select this option if you're using Moneris to accept payments via credit card. You will need to enter your Moneris-specific information such as your Moneris store ID.
    • Internal - orders are processed internally:
YWD will handle the ordering, but the actual payment will be handled outside of YWD.
    • Requests - users can request samples:
In this mode there are no purchases, but people can request product samples from the catalog.

Catalog structure

  • Organize the products into:
Here you specify how many levels will be used to organize the products. Note that the same product can be placed in many categories and/or subcategories. Skus are useful when you have different attributes e.g. colours or sizes for the same product.
  • Fields to use:
Depending on how you operate your business, you may check different fields. Only the fields that you select will be available when you create the products or when you display them.

Date and currency formats

  • These options allow you to configure the date and currency according to the country and language of your website.

List view options

  • List layout:
The number of products/columns in each row row and the number or rows before pagination numbers are shown.
  • Thumbnail picture size:
YWD can either display a small thumbnail picture of the product (about 100 pixels wide) or use the actual image on the list or you can specify a custom width for the image.
  • Sort list by:
Allows you to specify how you'd like to sort (order) the products within the list.
  • Fields to display in the product list:
When viewed as a list, not all fields are necessary (e.g. you want to show the reference code only when the product is viewed individually).

Individual product view options

  • Individual product layout:
The arrangement of the product's full-size image in relation to the rest of the content, when the product is viewed in its individual page. The image can appear "stacked" i.e. with all the content below, or it can be displayed to the left/right of all the content (in a separate column) or inset within the product description.
  • Description template:
You can have the product's Description field pre-filled with content when adding new products to your catalog, so you don't have to re-enter repetitive copy or reformat every product.
  • ‘Related products’ text:
If you assign any related products to a product, the text above will be used as a header. You may use “Customers who bought this also bought...” for example, or anything you want.
  • ‘Related products’ layout:
How to layout the list of related products.
  • Allow comments:
Indicates whether people will be able to add their own comments for the products.
  • Comments engine to use:
Which interface to use for comments on the products (if comments are being allowed). If using Disqus you will need to enter the Disqus forum shortname using the field below. If you choose Facebook, use YWD's Facebook App ID tool to enter your Facebook Application ID.
  • Disqus forum shortname:
Only applicable if you've chosen to use Disqus as your comments engine, in which case you need to tie the blog to your Disqus forum name.

User messages

  • "Welcome" message:
Word Processor content that can be inserted at the top of the catalog. It can contain text and/or images and will be displayed above the products list.

Advanced options

  • Google Conversion code:
If you have a Google AdSense account and would like to track your conversion rate, paste the code from Google here.
